Joseph J. Davis and Family Private Papers
Laura Harriss Howell Music Collection
This collection contains the personal music library of Laura Harriss Howell and includes opera librettos, music books, and sheet music meant to be sung and played on piano, organ or guitar by musicians in the home. Published primarily in the first half of the nineteenth century but including some Confederate imprints, the music reflects the parlor music tastes of the period and contains popular part-singing classics of the day.
Lazenby Family Papers
This collection contains correspondence, ephemera, periodicals and advertisments, and genealogical documents for and related to the Lazenby family and Jones family. Material also included are two documents relating to the end of the Civil War and the Confederacy: an Oath of Loyalty to the Union and a President's Warrant of Pardon for Mary M. Jones.
Lower Cape Fear Region Maps
This collection contains three maps of New Hanover county. Two maps document the topography and location of sunken blockade runners during the Civil War; the third map is of New Hanover county in 1949.
Major General William Wing Loring Proclamation
A broadside issued September 14, 1862 by the Army of the Confederate States "To the People of Western Virginia," declaring martial law by the command of Major General William Wing Loring during the Kanawha Valley Campaign of 1862.
Mrs. C.A. Council Letter
Letter to Mrs. C.A. Council from her unnamed brother dated 17 February 1862. In the letter, Council's brother describes the location where his regiment is stationed during the Civil War.
Richard Laracy Letter
This collection consists of a letter dated 1914, written by Richard Laracy, veteran, recounting his Civil War experiences to a friend. The letter outlines Laracy's experience at the Battle at Gettysburg. He was a Union soldier in Culter's 1st Division, 1st Corps. Included are the original letter and a photocopy.
