Steve E. Cooper Script Collection
Scope and Contents
This collection is comprised of produced and unproduced playscripts written by playwright and former Wilmington resident, Steven E. Cooper, which range in date from 1981 to 1994. Drafts and final scripts of The Lambda series are prominently featured. Set at a gay bar in Carolina Beach in 1979, The Lambda unfolds through the perspective of rising college freshman, Eric, and his interactions with other men in the bar. The play, expounding on life, love, and relationships, has become well regarded in the local community and has been revived at least four times in the years since the original performance. Among the scripts are early drafts of The Lambda, as well as adaptations and sequels. This collection also contains scripts that Cooper adapted for Thalian Hall's yearly Pied Piper theatre for children in New Hanover County, including Beanstalk and Aladdin.
