Sherwin Lipman Football Memorabilia
Scope and Contents
This collection contains football memorabilia, World War II memorabilia, and veteran documents. Included are game day programs from Army football games Sherwin Lipman played during World War II, as well as game day programs from football games Lipman played in the American Association immediately after World War II. The programs are dated from 1945 to 1946. The football memorabilia series also includes newspaper clippings and articles written about games Lipman was a part of during his football career. The World War II series contains documents that highlight World War II culture in both the United States and Europe, dating from 1944 to 1945. Included are magazines, graphic booklets, newspapers, holiday cards, and various World War II documents. The third series of veteran documents contains certificates and awards, as well as various papers, letters, and emails, relating to Lipman's service in the Army and status as a veteran, dating from 1947 to 2011.

Biographical / Historical
Sherwin Lipman was born on July 9, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA. During World War II, he served in the 90th Infantry Division and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and Ramagen. Lipman played football while in the military and joined the American Association minor league in the years immediately after the war.
In later years, Lipman resided in New Jersey with his wife, Violet "Vee" Lipman and his two sons. He was honored with the Morris County Distinguished Military Service Medal and served as Grand Marshall of several New Jersey Memorial Day parades. Lipman and Vee also operated Aquatours, a senior citizen tour company. He died on April 28, 2014.
