Connie spent most of her career in Wilmington and the surrounding areas. She taught children's art classes at Wilmington's Community Art Center in 1974-1975 and took photography classes at Cape Fear Technical Institute in 1977. By 1978 Connie was attending 40 Art Shows a year. In the 1980s her attention shifted from drawing and painting to photography, focusing primarily on the sea and shore birds of New Hanover County.
Consuelo was an enthusiast of astrology, horoscopology, palm reading, and tarot cards. She was an avid surfer, and a portion of the photograph collection documents local surfers and major surfing events in Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches during the 1980s and 1990s. Also an animal lover, there are many prints of the local wildlife including Alligators, Raccoons, and Cats. Connie Berkman passed away August 22, 1996 from cancer at the age of 47 and is buried at Oakdale Cemetary in Wilmington, NC.
