Scope and Contents

This crayon sketch on paper [9"x 11 3/4"] is of three images of male heads: a profile and back side view of an adult and a profile of an adolescent. It is initialed by the artist; the date is on a corner which has been broken off and may be 1968 or 1969. The word "studies" has been penciled at the bottom of the paper.

Biographical Note

Ben Long, a Statesville, North Carolina native and graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, studied the ancient art of fresco painting in Italy. His church frescoes in Glendale Springs and Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as his works in the Nations Bank building in the same city, have attracted international attention and critical acclaim. He's also exhibited in Italy, London, Paris, Atlanta, San Francisco, New York, and the Carolinas. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran from the Vietnam War, Long currently lives with his family in Asheville, North Carolina.
