Biographical and Historical Note
The 1893 World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago was one of the largest World's Fairs in terms of size and grandeur. It saw more than 27 million visitors and had exhibition representation from many foreign countries and local states, including North Carolina. Florence Hill Kidder was appointed a "lady manager" for North Carolina by the World's Columbian Commission and helped with the many North Carolina exhibits that were displayed among the various subject-specific halls. Her colonial exhibit won an award, and upon her return to North Carolina, she established the North Carolina chapter of the National Society for the Colonial Dames of America.
