Scope and Contents

This broadside is a rehash of James A. Garfield's political career as a Representative from Ohio covering the period 1869 through 1874. It details his involvement in the Crédit Mobilier of America scandal; alleging he received $5000 as a contingent fee from DeGolyer and Company; his voting record on key legislation in Congress; and his denunciation by the Republicans of this congressional district on September 7, 1876. The broadside also includes the "Official Record of Chester A. Arthur, Republican Candidate for Vice-President." The Democrats recounted the reasons used by President Hayes in 1879 for removing Arthur from his post as Collector of Customs for the Port of New York.

The verse of the broadside has excerpts from letters written by [Winfield S.] Hancock, Garfield's opponent and a large political cartoon drawn by J. Keppler showing the Republicans hunting for a bad record for Hancock.
