The collection highlights Dr. Edwin A. Alderman, who died while serving as the first President of the University of Virginia, 1904 - 1931. Dr. Alderman previously had served as President of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and President of Tulane University. This collection includes a book of photographs from the UVA book store, as well as a photograph of Charles D. McIver and a newspaper article announcing Alderman's death.
Dr. Gerald H. Shinn (known as Gerry) taught at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in the department of philosophy and religion for 27 years. This collection contains materials relating to the integration of New Hanover County schools, including court documents and supporting exhibit materials from integration law suits, as well as other school integration and civil rights cases from the area and nationally.
