Construction of new church, 1837-1840
Contains correspondence, financial information, and supply needs related to the construction of the new church building, which was deemed necessary in 1837 given the poor state of the original 1770 church. It also contains the original document proclaiming the cornerstone of the new church building was laid in 1839, as well as the original document stating the new church was consecrated in 1840. Typescripts and a photocopy of the document are also included.

Contains addresses, services, newspaper clippings, programs, and photographs of Bishop Thomas Campbell Darst, D.D. (1875-1948), who served as Bishop of the Diocese of East Carolina from 1915-1945. Bishop Darst's consecration and retirement ceremonies were both held at St. James Church. Also includes a photograph of Bishop Darst with Bishop Thomas H. Wright at Wright's consecration as bishop at St. James in 1945, following Darst's retirement.
