Nathan Ellis Block (1903-1986) came to Wilmington from Baltimore in 1923 with 25 used sewing machines to start a 2nd factory. The Baltimore factory was closed and the whole family (father William, brothers Freddy, Charlie, Joe, David) moved south. Nathan, an inventor of factory equipment and an excellent administrator, ruled the factory and was regarded as the "brains" of the company. His father, William, was the official head of the Block Shirt Co. until the late 1940s when Nathan made son Charles president. Joe was a buyer in NY, but lived in Wilmington, brother David ran the New York office. Fred became president and CEO in 1969, taking his father's role. His son William B.
