This collection contains personal letters to and from various Poisson and Cutlar family members--including Frederick, a merchant in London, Louis, a local Wilmington real estate agent, as well as from DuBrutz Cutlar, Jr. and Sr., both Wilmington lawyers. Additional materials include two photographs and three invitations.

Biographical / Historical

Frederick Cutlar Poisson was born on January 16, 1866 to Frederick Davis Poisson (1836-1881) and Lucy Anna Cutlar Poisson (1836-1884). He was a merchant of F. C. Poisson and Co. of London and Johannesburg, and lived in London for several years. He married Frances Empie Latimer, widow of Herbert R. Latimer. Frederick and Frances had no children. Frederick died July 5, 1941 in Saint Cloud, Osceola County, Florida.

Louis Julien Poisson Sr., brother to Frederick C. Poisson, was born on January 4, 1860, to Frederick Davis (1836-1881) and Lucy Anna Poisson (1836-1884). He worked in Wilmington in the real estate business. On October 28, 1886 he married Mary (Maine/Manie) Allen of Canada. They had four children: Louis Julien Jr., Luciana Cutlar Poisson Pickrell, Frederick Davis, and DuBrutz. Louis Julien Jr. attended Woodbury, Forest School in Virginia, North Carolina State University, and UNC Chapel Hill. He was a lawyer. On June 6, 1920 he married Gethyn Ball Rugen, a graduate of Tulane. They had Louis Julien III, Gethyn Rugen, and Frederick Davis.

DuBrutz Cutlar Sr. was born in North Carolina in 1832. He was a lawyer in Wilmington. He married Marianna Poisson--sister of Frederick Davis, the husband of Lucy Anna--and they had four children: DuBrutz Cutlar Jr., Lila Davis Cutlar Justice, Lula C. Cutlar Justice, and Louis Julian Poisson. Both Lila and Lula married Edwin Judson Justice--he married Lula following the death of Lila. DuBrutz Cutlar Jr. was also a Wilmington lawyer. He married Lillie Masten on November 18, 1896.
