Historical Note
The 8th regiment artillery of New York was designated as such in December 19, 1862, having previously been the 129th regiment of infantry before being converted into a regiment of artillery. Troops were originally recruited from Genesee, Niagara, and Orleans counties. The regiment served outside the state around Baltimore and Harper's Ferry, West Virginia into 1865, until some of the companies mustered out and were honorably discharged on June 5, 1865, with the rest of the companies transferred to other New York infantry or artillery companies.
