Tom Summers began collecting sports materials by the time he was nine years old. Throughout his later career in South Carolina as a United Methodist clergyman, a full-time chaplaincy director and teacher in the public mental health field, his fondness for sports history was maintained. One of his special interest areas has been the era from the post-World War II years through the early 1950s.
