Scope and Contents

This collection contains media guides and game day programs mainly from SC colleges, universities and high schools that were collected by Tom Summers.  A few items from professional sports are included. Also included in the collection are sports magazines and books, photos, newspapers articles, and other memorabilia, as well as Summers’ published newspaper columns and books, Hunkering Down: My Story in Four Decades of Clinical Pastoral Education and  Want a Frog? Memories, Sports and Other South Carolina Tales.

Biographical Note

Tom Summers began collecting sports materials by the time he was nine years old. Throughout his later career in South Carolina as a United Methodist clergyman, a full-time chaplaincy director and teacher in the public mental health field, his fondness for sports history was maintained. One of his special interest areas has been the era from the post-World War II years through the early 1950s.
