Scope and Contents

This collection contains papers, photographs, and original artwork, which highlight the career of local Wilmington artist, Fritzi Huber. Spanning from the 1970s to the early 2000s, this collection includes a wide range of papers: correspondence, artist statements, resumes, press releases, brochures/newsletters, artists/gallery agreements, price list purchase orders, invoices, packing slips, gallery floor plans, and consignment agreements. Also included within the collection are models/sketches of Fritzi's designs and photographs of her art, as well as photographs of specific galleries and commissioned sites.

Biographical Note

Wilmington papermarker and artist Fritzi Huber was born in Houston, Texas into a family of circus performers. Her mother and father were a trapeze act known as “The Sensational Kays.” She studied the visual arts at Palomar College and the University of Houston, as well as received private tutelage from fellow artists Lee Scott McDonald, Bob Nugent, and Don Farnsworth. Her early career was marked as a seamstress until she moved to southern California and befriended papermaker Sherril Cunning, who encouraged Huber to learn how to make her own paper for her art. Throughout her career, Huber participated in numerous exhibitions showcasing her art and was selected for dozens of public commissions and collections. She has given several lectures, demonstrations, and workshops at universities and art centers across the country and abroad.

This collection is arranged in the following series:

Series 1: Gallery Showings

This series contains details of Fritzi Huber's involvement with various art galleries throughout the late 1970s to the early 2000s. Included are inventory lists, receipts, photographs, invoices, correspondence, floor plans, consignment forms, etc.

Series 2: Commissioned Works

This series contains papers related to Fritzi Huber's involvement with various commissioned projects throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. It contains correspondence, preliminary plans, project proposals, photographs, and cost of materials sheet.

Series 3: Art Consulting Representation

This series contains materials which follow Fritzi Huber's relationship with various art consulting firms throughout the 1980s. It contains contracts, invoices, order forms, receipts, inventory/sales sheets, correspondence, artist backgrounds, newsletters, and newspaper clippings.

Series 4: Workshops

This series contains papers that relate to Fritzi Huber's involvement in various workshops and demonstrations throughout the 1980s. It includes press releases, pamphlets, postcards, and informational packet

Series 5: Personal Papers

This series contains assorted materials documenting the career of Fritzi Huber. It includes a resume, personal notes, art commission agreements, art exhibition announcements, models/sketches, photographs, and correspondence collected by Fritzi between the late 1970s and early 2000s.
