Poet and author William Archibald McGirt, who legally changed his name to Will Inman in 1973 is a 1943 Duke University graduate. He describes his political views as "Democratic revolutionary socialist", and his religion as "Kaurian". His career included publisher and editor of Kauri, a newsletter, faculty member Montgomery College, association with Free University of New York, artist in residence, American University, Washington, D.C. Inman's correspondence was usually typed, landscape view, with the letter one one half and a poem on the other half. Inman often included other poems with his letters.
