Historical Note
Wilmington Civitan Club was chartered in 1938, and has grown in membership and community involvement. They were largely responsible for bringing the first Iron Lung to Wilmington during the Polio epidemic years of the 1940s and 1950s and their support of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina, made possible by their famous Claxton Fruitcake sales each year. A few other ongoing projects have been: Annual Scholarship Awards, Keep America Beautiful, Lower Cape Fear Hospice, and Bell Ringers for Salvation Army.
