Scope and Contents
HAE, a gifted amateur player, was a member of the tennis team of Johnson C. Smith University, served as president of the American Tennis Association, and maintained a lifelong interest in the game. The extensive tennis correspondence illuminates the history and operations of the ATA, the national tennis organization for Negro players; HAE's sponsorship of young tennis players, Althea Gibson among others; and his lifelong friendships with fellow players, who included many of the Negro professional class.

The estate of Dr. Hubert A. Eaton, Sr. has gifted the contents of the Dr. Hubert A. Eaton, Sr. Papers to Randall Library Special Collections, University of North Carolina at Wilmington subject to several conditions pertaining to their use.
