 File — Box: 3, Folder: 7-9

Scope and Contents

Contains materials removed from Judson L. Dukes’ World War II-era scrapbook. Materials include black-and-white photographs of Dukes’ family, friends, and other servicemen. The empty pages of the scrapbook, as well as the digital photographs of the scrapbook in its original form, provide names and notes about each photograph and Dukes’ comrades. Locations identified include France, Korea (the bulk from Qwangju), Japan (including Okinawa), and the United States. Photographs of note include a group of African American men identified as the "1st Squad" at Kwangju, the students from the St. Emma's Military Academy, and Dukes' U.S. Army chaplain in Kwangju during Christmas 1945. Also included in this scrapbook are postcards from Japan and France and other forms of memorabilia.
