This collection contains papers documenting the political activities and business operations of Albert W. Buffkin (1855-1921), a white landowner, business operator, and farmer in Columbus County, North Carolina during the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. Types of materials include professional and personal correspondence, a 1782 land grant, deeds and indentures, court and legal documents, handwritten notes, political pamphlets, contracts, mortgage agreements, account books, and other financial documents. Some of these materials may pertain to other members of the Buffkin family. Also included in this collection is Buffkin family genealogy research compiled by Virginia Buffkin. Materials date from 1782 to 2005, with the bulk of materials dating from 1870 to 1930.
