Biographical Note
Reverend Solomon Halling joined St. James as rector in 1795, just after the reorganization and repair of the church following the Revolutionary War, when it had been converted into a hospital and for other war uses. He was first ordained in 1792 after serving in the Continental Army as a surgeon. Halling resigned in 1809.
