Scope and Contents

Contains materials pertaining to real estate transactions of Wilmington’s Block 103, the parameters being S. Fourth Street, Nun Street, S. Fifth Avenue, and Church Street. These documents include envelopes, plat drawings, single sheets of notes, correspondence, mortgage certificates, deeds, Mechanics' Home Association documents, indenture documents, and newspaper clippings. Names of specific people mentioned in these records include Jas. Sprunt, Sarah J. Willson, Frank L. Mills, Jr., W. H. Schaefer, Reslow, John D. Bellamy Jr., Christopher C. Whitehead, W. M. Also includes several reprints of a newspaper article printed in The Wilmington Star (October 29, 1898) "A Horrid Slander," which was a response to Alexander Manly's article "Mrs. Felton's Speech," in the Morning Star. This article contributed to the events of the 1898 Wilmington Coup d'état. Specific dates mentioned in these records include 1878, 1897, 1898, 1900, 1902, 1906, 1911, 1915, 1916, 1918, and 1919, although the bulk of the materials are undated and likely range from the 1870s to 1920.
