Biographical Note

Reverend William Douglass Cairns was born in Connectict in August 1804 and graduated from Yale in 1823. He was ordained in the Protestant Episcopal Church in 1825 and began working in Virginia, New York, and North Carolina, where he was rector of St. James from 1829-1833. From Wilmington, he moved to Columbus, Georgia, where he remained until his death in Alabama in May 1850.
